the research
The Research: The Center for Disease Control and Kaiser Permanente conducted a study from 1995 to 1997 to investigate childhood trauma. With over 17,000 participants in the original study, they found that one-third of the participants experienced at least one childhood trauma in their lives. More than one in five individuals experienced five or more adversities in childhood (CDC.gov). The consensus was that these endorsements of adverse childhood experiences contribute to medical conditions, increased chances of deficits in educational, social, occupational, and overall functioning, and can result in a decrease in longevity.
